Are you a Sinner, or a Saint?

Cutting costsThis week I am going to share with you what I believe are the ‘Seven Deadly Sins of Internet Marketing’.  Are you making any of them?
Sin No.1 – Thinking that having a website is enough
Having a quality website is essential, but if you don’t get traffic to the site and then convert that traffic into leads, or sales.  97% of websites produce no, or very little business.
Sin No.2 – Not understanding Google
Not having at least a basic understanding for how Google has changed.
So many businesses either don’t do any SEO, or they outsource it to a company who say that they know what they are doing, but don’t get results.
Buying anything without understanding what you are buying is always risky!!!
Sin No.3 – Being on LinkedIn, but not using it
Nearly every business owner I meet is guilty of this one and it is such a big Sin!
Whether you are a one man band, or a big corporate business, if you are not using LinkedIn to create leads, then you are missing out.  To give you some perspective, LinkedIn could be providing you with 20% to 40% of your business, right now.  For me that figure is 40%!
Sin No.4 – Not blogging
There are so many reasons why you, MUST blog and I can’t cover them all today.  Suffice to say that ‘Google loves blogs’.
Note – You must know how to blog correctly, with Google in mind.  My blogs are all over the first pages on Google – Do you have the skills to get these results?
 
Sin No.5 – Not using e-mail marketing
I hear some people say email no longer works.  That is simply not true.  I win business every time that I send out an e-mail and you could too, if you put time and effort into learning how.
By the way – we can write, design and send out a monthly e-mail for you to 20,000 business in your area for £397.00+VAT.
Sin No.6 – Not using the best form of advertising ever
Not knowing how to use Google Adwords, or other Pay Per Click (PPC Advertising).
Sin No.7 – Not using…
This one is probably the biggest sin of them all and that is not using YouTube.  Video is the future of marketing and the best news is that most of your competitors are either not using it, or not using it properly.

Marketing Advice UK – Developing a referral system

An untapped source of business

Start by ensuring that everyone in your business reads this chapter/book and discusses its implications for your business.

If you have 100 customers and you get each one of them to give you just one referral each on average (some won’t give you any and some will give you four).  Let’s say let’s say you close only 50% of those (this is low considering they are referrals).  This means you have just grown your business by 50% without spending a penny on marketing.

Work out what your average unit of sale is (let’s say it is £1,000) and on average a new client buys from you four times per year.  You can very easily work out how much potential you have for increasing your business through referral.

E.g.

100 clients = 100 referrals

100 referrals = 50 new clients

50 new clients = £50 x save sale of £3,000pa

£3,000pa x average lifetime of 6 years = £18,000 per client

£18,000 per client x 50 new clients = £900,000

Yes £900,000 worth of new business won in the first year.  But lets suppose we get a little bit ‘sexy’ here!  Lets say, we don’t ask for a referral once per year but instead we ask for one every quarter!  You do the maths!

There are several key words above and they include “average”.  Some customers will not give you any and some will give you far more than one.

Other key words are “average sale”.  Don’t forget most will come back to you again and again providing you do a good job.  So you must know what the marginal net worth of your clients is.

You could also add the thought of winning repeat referrals from your clients, lets say four times a year.  Now what would a system for winning referrals be worth to you?

One last point!  How much does this cost and what is the risk?  Well – it costs nothing to ask for a referral and the worst thing that could happen is a client will say no!

Design a simple form which makes it easy for people to give you all the information they may need to follow up a referral.

You could even try one of my favourite tactics, which is to hold a competition prize draw into which every completed referral form is entered.

What you need is a script, which has been proven to work in many different industries and businesses.  The script should make it easy to ask for referrals and easy for your clients to give them to you.
