Yes it is. OK you knew I was going to say that, didn’t you? But let me explain why.
Firstly, what are your competitors doing? That is right, they are cutting back. What does that actually mean? It means that your competitors are happy to know that their sales are going to go down the tube! So the first reason to invest is that others aren’t and so it is currently less competitive.
Secondly, the pie has shrunk. In other words, there is less business out there and so if you are going to gain market share, then you have got to raise your marketing game.
Thirdly, the world is changing. for 30 years my catch phrase was “If you always do what you’ve always done, then you’ll always get what you’ve always got”. But I can tell you that it is no longer true. If you keep doing the same thing you are not even going to get what you’ve always got. You must do better and more of it.
I am sure I could list many more reasons to keep marketing, but there is three for you to think about.
